How virtual experiences can enhance in-person weddings

Just over a year ago, the world was turned upside down with the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the biggest areas impacted is in-person events and interactions. We all know people that were impacted by the limitations placed on in-person activities and interactions, but one event in particular took a huge hit — weddings.

When two people get married it is often considered the “happiest day of their lives”. A wedding is a happy event because the couple is surrounded by the people who love and support them. While the COVID-19 pandemic has been the main reason people are unable to participate on this special day, we recognize that there are a number of unanticipated reasons that the people the bride and groom care about may be unable to attend. These reasons may include scheduling conflicts, health challenges, or an inability to travel.

Many of us have turned to Zoom, FaceTime, and other technologies to supplement our desire for personal interaction; however, for weddings, these technologies simply don’t cut it. Users need a solution that enables them to “attend” an event virtually in a way that is meaningful, enjoyable, and scalable for tens or hundreds of guests.

We decided to address this need by creating a virtual event platform that is catered to hosting weddings. For details on our project, please view the in-depth presentation below:

Please note that the event used in the demo is now private.
